Operation Beautiful: September

Hello lovely followers! Very sorry about the delay, I've realized that the days just aren't long enough for 7 hours of school, 2 hours of homework, and whatever other necessary doings I have going on. Yup, this means I'm totally drained on sleep.

Anyway, on the topic of something a little more satisfying... I'm here with the first ever entry of Operation Beautiful! You'd be amazed at how long I've been planning this out, well, only if one week counts. :D

A couple nights ago, right after my last post, I took out a pad of lime-green post-it notes and began to brainstorm the perfect OpBe (can I call it that? It's much shorter and OB was already taken... :D) message. I came up with this: YOU are BEAUTIFUL because you are you! Never forget that!

There were a couple of attempts to sticking it on the school bathroom mirror, but things like sleep, bells, and stupid lockers got in the way. Yes. So this morning I hurried off the bus and ran to the bathroom, the whole way scheming a glorious plan. It consisted of this:

1. Grab a stall and pretend to, well, you know...
2. Listen for anyone else in bathroom
3. Wait for the 3 loud ones who just walked in to get out
4. Still waiting...
5. Okay, it's been too long, just stick it on the inside of the stall and snap the picture
6. Now hurry out before someone sees the stall you were just in

Mission. Accomplished. Yay!

Do you want to see it?

Excuse the blurriness, I took this with my phone. :D

That's all for now! Don't forget to link up, it will be open for the rest of the month, which is coming up. Soon!

Psalms 27:1

I have a problem with bees. Whether they're stingless and 2.1 mm long, or giant, leaf-cuttingbeasts, or even the "cute" little honey bees that everyone knows in North America--they are all bees to me and no matter what, you can always count on me screaming and running to the nearest enclosed shelter.

I have tried to overcome my fear. Really, I have! But there seems to be no hope in this world for me. So I just do what I do best--run away.

Today I was mowing the lawn, proud that I was able to start the thing by myself, and eyes peeled for any innocent, 1-inch toads that were likely to jump out in any direction (we have a lot of them). And when I finally turned the corner to face my least favorite part of the yard, there the bees were, waiting for me. (Well, they weren't exactly waiting for me, they were more hanging around the Yellow Jacket Motel contemplating whether or not they should give in to peer pressure and fly through the one-way-entrance of DOOM! Okay, I'm really getting too excited about this 'Kill the Bees' thing... Anyway, you get the picture.)

So there they were, waiting, and you know what I did? You guessed it. I ran inside as fast as I could. But then I thought, "Hey there Alex! You still have the last part of the lawn to mow. Go back out there and finish." So I did. I was scared to pieces, but I went. The whole time watching the Motel and the bees and chanting in my head 'The LORD is my light and my salvation--whom shall I fear? Psalms 27:1'. You can bet that I ran in a few more times. But I finished the yard.

And all thanks to my favorite verse: Psalms 27:1.

Sometimes, it's obvious when God is with you. And today he definitely was. No doubt about it.

Something New

I have a new obsession.

No, it's not shopping, or organization, or even chocolate. (Although I've had all three at one point or another.) It's yard work. Yes, I said yard work. Now, you may be thinking, why on earth would anyone at age 14 have an obsession with yard work? I understand. Because I'm sure I wouldn't have known the answer to that myself only 4 weeks ago.

Maybe it's because it's summer. Or maybe it's the amount of hours I spend jumping, walking, biking outside. But I think the reason for my newly found 'escape hobby' (that's what I call 'I have got to get out of this house and away from these people right. now.') is God.

He's the one who really planted, and watered, and cared for the grass. He is the God to painted the flowers, and grew the squash. Heck, He even put those pesky, prickly weeds all over the yard.

And I guess I am just beginning to realize that. And the beauty of it all.

So, here's to beauty.

The family garden. Rhubarb, basil, sage, squash, zucchini... Is there much else to say?

These are my new favorite flowers! So lively, yet so simple.

And did you know we are raising a tree? Our very own, helicopter-seed, 4-and-a-half-inch-tall tree! Isn't it so cute...

Lighting here isn't so great...

My rose! It used to have a gazillion blossoms on it. But then they wilted. And now it's August. This flower doesn't like August too much. (Did you know that the rose is actually called 'Giggles'? I know, right!)

Our little, baby squash! Yummy!

And, lastly, our zucchini. It's there--just hidden in the shadows.

What's your obsession?
